BDIH
BDIH is one of the first organizations to certify natural skin care. Based out of Mannheim Germany, it developed in 1996 a comprehensive set of guidelines for certified natural cosmetics. The criteria in the BDIH label are very strict and requires manufacturers to use high quality ingredients obtained from controlled organic cultivation or controlled organic wild collection as well as meet specific packaging and production standards. Other standards include:
- Ingredients have to be from a plant or mineral source
- Plant ingredients should be obtained from organic growth or wild harvest wherever possible
- Most petroleum based or synthetic ingredients are not allowed
- Genetically Modified Ingredients are not allowed
- Packaging has to be ecologically conscious, so recyclable and minimalistic
- No animal testing is allowed
- No organic-synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, ethoxylated raw materials, silicon, paraffin or other mineral oil derivatives may be used
All Benecos Beauty Products with the exception of the Happy Nails line are BDIH Certified. The Happy Nails line of Nail Polishes use specially select low toxicity synthetic ingredients in order to provide the high performance of regular nail polish but are 5-Free, gluten-free, vegan and cruelty free.

NATRUE
NATRUE is a newer, international natural standard that has been adopted by Lavera for all its products. It is a non-profit organization that has created 3 levels of certification for natural cosmetics - Natural, Natural with Organic Portion (70%), and Organic Cosmetics (95% organic). Besides Lavera, NATRUE boasts noted natural skin care manufacturers such as Dr Hauschka and Weleda as members.

Natural Products Association
Founded in 1936, the Natural Products Association is the nation’s largest and oldest nonprofit organization dedicated to the natural products industry. NPA represents over 1,900 members accounting for more than 10,000 retail, manufacturing, wholesale, and distribution locations of natural products, including foods, dietary supplements, and health/beauty aids.
NPA's Natural Seal for Personal Care Products is a standard based on natural ingredients, safety, responsibility and sustainability.
- Natural Ingredients: A product labeled "natural" should be made up of only, or at least almost only, natural ingredients and be manufactured with appropriate processes to maintain ingredient purity.
- Safety: A product labeled "natural" should avoid any ingredient with a suspected human health risk.
- Responsibility: A product labeled "natural" should use no animal testing in its development.
- Sustainability: A product labeled "natural" should use biodegradable ingredients and the most environmentally sensitive packaging.

Vegan Society
The Vegan Society, based in Birmingham UK, was founded in November 1944 and is the world's first vegan society. The international Vegan Society Trademark is the leading symbol of vegan-friendly products and services, with over 16,000 registered so far, more than any other vegan certification body. Certification means that the skin care products adhere to strict vegan standards and are healthier, greener and kinder to animals and the planet!
